Female Hair  Loss Pattern

Androgenetic Alopecia is a major reason of female pattern baldness as is for male pattern hair loss. Hair follicles on the scalp of women that are rich with receptors for androgens, contribute to aggravate the condition of Androgenetic Alopecia. Such hair follicles attract a lot of DHT that initially lead to thinning of hair and then to sever hair loss. However, it is uncommon that women get completely bald patches as are cases with men.

The condition of female pattern hair loss is expectedly affecting one third of the female population. Though it is generally believed to affect women population that are above 40 years of age or to women after their menopause, but off late, girls in their puberty have also been reported to have been suffering from FPHL. On a rough scale, about 15 percent of women suffer from this condition even before their menopause.Women suffering from FPHL does not show signs of alopecia as is evident in the men suffering from the pattern baldness. Generally, the hair line of women do not recede, it is more of thinning of the hair throughout the scalp region. On the basis of Ludwig scale which is a standard scale to determine the condition and severity of Female pattern hair loss, there are three basic patterns of hair loss in women.

Category 2
The thinning of the hair is almost uniform throughout the scalp region, but the thinning of hair in front part of the scalp is clearly noticeable. However, the hairline remains intact.

Category 3
The frontal hair line is affected in this condition and generally it begins to recede, whereas hair continues to become noticeably thinner throughout the scalp region.
